This is a great
place and the most popular, for learning to windsurf. Its also good for improving or racing. Heaps of parking, grass
rigging, toilets and BBQ area. Usually less windy than nearby Plimmerton beach in
northerly directions, but also gustier, since the inlet is surrounded by hills.
From October to
April, the Wellington Windsurf School (Facebook Page) windsurfing school is usually happening at the
weekends.
Who does it suit
Ideal for beginners as the water is below head-high for quite a distance and it is really safe. The water is pretty flat so its good for getting speed up. Improvers also often come here to work on their gybes, waterstarts, or freestyle tricks.
What are the best conditions
Works in most wind directions from N, NW SE and E. High tide is better because you dont need to walk so far & are less likely to damage your fin coming too close to shore.
